The Stone Mill 50 Mile Run showcases the beauty of both the Seneca Greenway and Muddy Branch trails in Montgomery County, Maryland. The course traverses forested, rolling terrain through county, state, and national parks. The 50 mile race is popular due to the scenic trails and the local accessibility for an ultramarathon within the populated Montgomery County area. The course begins at Stedwick Elementary School in Gaithersburg, travels down the Muddy Branch Trail to the C&O Canal Towpath, and returns back along the trails in Seneca Creek State Park. Hundreds of runners, volunteers, and spectators take part in the day-long event.
